Yes We Can

YES, WE CAN! Sept. 12, 2010

Yes, We Can! is an annual canned food drive. It begins with a Kick-off food drive by the church congregation. Then, from 1:30 - 3:30 on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12, teams of young people go door to door collecting canned food. Their goal is 12 tons of food. They bring their collection to be weighed-in at Bible Baptist Church parking lot. Following weigh-in, there will be games, a pizza party, prizes for the winning teams, worship music and devotions.

Here's how it works...

  • Youth Pastors pick up a packet for each team of young people at Kokomo Rescue Mission, prior to the event (available beginning Sept. 1.) Each team is no more than 6 youth plus one adult.

  • Teams of youth will collect canned food in the area of town assigned to them in the team packets. Preference for certain areas assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Organize a Kick-off collection of food by your church congregation. Bring your Kick-off collection to the Mission prior to the event or to Bible Baptist Church parking lot at 1:30 pm on the day of the event, at the same time the youth start their door to door collection.

  • Each team is assigned one "Mega" food (basic foods needed by the Mission, such as green beans, corn, etc.)These "Mega" foods are assigned inside each packet and are assigned at random. The "Mega" food is revealed when the team packet is opened at the beginning of the door to door collection. This makes the collection something of a scavenger hunt as teams ask especially for the Mega food they are assigned and an "unusual" food.

  • Teams bring collected canned food to Bible Baptist parking lot for weigh-in at 3:30 pm, separating their "Mega" food from all other foods collected before they approach the scales.

  • Following weigh-in, there will be games and pizza, music and worship, all ending approximately 5:00 pm with the announcement of the winners.

  • Each church pays just $35 (paid when packets are picked up) for the cost of pizza for all the event participants.

  • The event schedule is as follows:
1:30 to 2:00 --Kick-Off collection of food arrives at Bible Baptist
    1:30 to 3:30 --Scavenger Hunt
3:30 to 4:15 --Food Weigh In at Bible Baptist Parking Lot
3:30 to 4:15 --Pizza, Games, Music
    4:15 to 4:30 --Devotions
    4:30 to 5:00 --Worship Music
5:00 (or before) --Winners announced with Prizes

  • Prizes will be awarded to teams for:
1.The most of each "Mega" food
2.The most food collected in total
    3.The most unusual food

September 13, 2009
Young people CAN do very positive things to help their community!
They collected over 10 tons of canned food for Kokomo Rescue Mission's outreach to the hungry.

Better stop in the "bartering" area to sort out your "mega" food.

Want to trade?

How much does that weigh?

Haggis???Now that's unusual!

Where's the pizza??

Almost 100 teams from 25 different churches went door-to-door for two hours on Sunday afternoon. They weighed-in at Bible Baptist Church parking lot and then went into the gym for a pizza party and praised God together led by a worship team from Bible Baptist.
